The City of Union Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that, as of Jan. 1, 2006, consists of 17 sworn police officers. Seven are full-time officers. Four officers are certified evidence technicians. All of our officers are trained in traffic crash investigation. In October 2005, Officer Kevin Kern was certified as a D.A.R.E. officer by the State of Ohio. This spring, he will begin teaching the D.A.R.E. program to 5th grade students at Union Elementary School.

The Police Department helps to ensure the safety of residents by enforcing laws, responding to emergencies, and serving as a visible and positive presence in the community. In 2005, we saw a significant decrease in property crimes and traffic crashes that resulted in injuries. We believe this can be attributed to the extra patrol promised at the beginning of the year. Thank you for your continued support! -- Police Chief Mike Blackwell
