Community Oriented Policing

imageThe City of Union’s Police Department strongly believes in Community Oriented Policing. The department is fortunate to have community programs in place to assist the residents of Union. Below, we have outlined Community Oriented Policing services available to residents:

Block Watch: “Block Watch” is a national program was developed to mobilize communities to take action against crime. Through increased awareness and connections among neighbors, “Block Watch” is a deterrent to crime. Please contact the Police Department for more information.

Crime Prevention: Our crime prevention officer would be happy to schedule a time with you and your neighbors to talk about crime prevention tips or security information.

Vacation House Watch: While on vacation or away from home for an extended period, please let the Police Department know.

You can print out and complete a Security Check Report: SECURITY_CHECK_REPORT.pdf  Mail it to the Union Police Department at 118 North Main Street, Union, Ohio 45322.

Or simply give us a call. We will add your name and address to our database for our officers to keep an eye on your house as time permits.

Speed Watch: Residents concerned with speeding on their street can call the City of Union Police Department and request a specific street be placed on the Speed Watch List. The resident will be asked to provide the time of day and the location on the street that appears to be an issue. Officers will patrol the street and monitor the traffic flow.

Bicycle Registrations: Bicycles are required to be licensed by the Union Police Department. The one-time license fee is $2.50. Please visit City Hall at 118 North Main Street to purchase bike licenses.  An application can be found here, BikeLicense.pdf, or under the Forms section of this website.

In-School Bicycle Safety Programs: Depending on available grant funds, several Union police officers will visit 4th through 6th grade classes at Union Elementary School to educate children in bike safety. In the past, federal grants have enabled Union to provide free bike helmets to all participants.
